Merzifon

Merzifon is a town located in Amasya Province and sits on a broad plain surrounded by mountains. The administrative area includes numerous villages and is well connected by roads to major cities like Istanbul, Ankara, and the Black Sea region.

The region originated under Persian rule when it was called Marzban and later passed through Greek, Roman, Byzantine, and Ottoman control across the centuries. It gradually became an important administrative center in the area.

The Karamustafapasa Mosque, constructed in 1666, stands as the primary architectural monument with its grand dome, painted portico, and ornate ritual washing fountain.

Spring and autumn offer the most comfortable weather for exploring the area and its surrounding landscape. The well-maintained road network makes it easy to travel between villages and nearby attractions.

The remains of Anatolia College, founded in 1886, can be found here and was once a significant educational institution. The site recalls an important chapter in the region's educational past before major changes of the early 1900s.
