Mamure Castle

The stone castle spans 23,500 square meters along the Mediterranean coast, featuring 39 towers connected by wide ramparts and a protective moat.

Romans built the initial fortress in the 3rd century, followed by Byzantine modifications before Seljuk Sultan Alaattin Keykubat I expanded it in 1221.

The castle includes a 16th-century Ottoman mosque with an octagonal drum under the central dome and a single minaret in the western courtyard.

The fortress stands 6 kilometers east of Anamur and 216 kilometers west of Mersin, with direct access from the D400 coastal highway.

The castle grounds contain remnants of an ancient aqueduct that transported water from mountains 5 kilometers away and a lighthouse on the southern section.
