Meydancık Castle, Ancient castle ruins in Gülnar, Turkey
The castle extends across 750 meters on a hill at 700 meters elevation, featuring military structures on its northern section and a single entrance at the northeast corner.
The castle, originally named Kirshu, served as the capital of Pirandu state in the 7th century BC before its capture by Babylonian Emperor Neriglissar in the 6th century BC.
Archaeological excavations revealed 5,215 coins from various Hellenistic states and a seal belonging to Hittite King Muwatalli, indicating multiple civilizations inhabited the site.
The site stands 12 kilometers from Gülnar town center and 165 kilometers from Mersin city, accessible through the main road connecting Gülnar and Aydıncık.
A mysterious well hole at the southern end reaches 23 meters deep, with its original purpose remaining unknown despite extensive archaeological investigations.
