Wanggaoliao, Observation park in Nantun District, Taiwan
Wanggaoliao is an observation park in Nantun District located on the southern slope of Dadu Mountain. The site features wooden walkways, viewing platforms, art installations, parking areas, and restroom facilities for visitors.
During World War II, the Japanese military built bunkers at this location to defend against potential American landings. Five of these structures remain today and are preserved as historical buildings open to visitors.
The name comes from a local legend tied to the area's history, and today it draws visitors who come to watch the city lights below from the viewing platforms. The wooden pathways and heart-shaped art pieces create a space where people gather to experience the city from above.
The park is open 24 hours daily with parking and restroom facilities available, while the local police station provides regular patrols for visitor safety. Wear good shoes since the pathways are on a mountain slope.
From this elevated position, visitors can simultaneously observe three distinct landscapes: the Taichung Basin to the east, the Dadu River to the south, and Taichung Port to the west. This rare vantage point allows you to take in the region's geographic diversity at a glance.
