Zhang Family Ancestral Shrine

The Zhang Family Ancestral Shrine is an ancestral hall located in Xiehe Village with traditional Fujianese architecture featuring red brick walls. The structure has distinctive windows decorated with brick carvings and a central altar that forms the focal point of the building.

The shrine was founded by descendants of the Chang family from Shibi in Fujian Province who eventually settled in the Xitun district. It came into being as a way to preserve family bonds and remember ancestral origins.

The shrine serves as a gathering place where the family comes together for seasonal celebrations and important occasions throughout the year. You can see how the arrangement of ancestor tablets reflects the family's ties to previous generations.

The building underwent major restoration work in 1998 to protect its structure for future generations. The careful maintenance of its traditional construction makes it possible for visitors to understand how these ancestral spaces were designed and preserved.

The shrine features intricate wooden frames and detailed carvings on the gateway and throughout the central hall, all created by master carpenter Chen Ying-shan. His craftsmanship is visible in every corner of the building, reflecting the high standards of traditional construction work.
