Zhang Family Ancestral Shrine, Ancestral hall in Xiehe Village, Taiwan.
The Zhang Family Ancestral Shrine stands with traditional Fujianese architecture, featuring red brick walls and Eight Diagram three-sill bamboo node windows with brick carvings.
The shrine was established by descendants of the Matang Chang family from Shibi village in Fujian province, who settled in the Xitun district of Taichung.
The shrine contains altars and ancestral tablets arranged by seniority, serving as a central location for family ceremonies and traditional gatherings throughout the year.
The shrine underwent extensive renovation in 1998, with an investment of 54 million New Taiwan dollars to preserve its structural integrity for future generations.
Master carpenter Chen Ying-shan created intricate wood frame constructions within the shrine, incorporating detailed carvings into the gateway and central hall design.
