Dadong Shan, Mountain summit at Baihe District border, Taiwan
Dadong Shan is a mountain summit in Taiwan, sitting on the boundary between Baihe District in Tainan City and Dapu Township in Chiayi County. The peak rises to 1,241 meters and can be reached from either side via marked trails.
The mountain served as a natural dividing line between surrounding areas long before Taiwan's modern administrative boundaries were drawn. When the island was divided into districts and counties over time, the peak was used as a fixed point for marking the border.
Hikers from both Tainan and Chiayi regularly use the trails, and the summit is a natural meeting point for people from two different administrative areas. On weekends, the paths see a steady flow of local walkers who treat the mountain as a shared outdoor space.
The trails on the Tainan side differ in length and difficulty from those on the Chiayi side, so it is worth deciding in advance which access point suits you best. Weekdays tend to be quieter on the paths than weekends.
Although the summit marks an administrative boundary, there is no physical sign on the trail to indicate the moment you cross from one area to the other. Hikers pass through the boundary without any marker or sign to show the transition.
