Jianshanpi Reservoir
Jianshanpi Reservoir is a large water basin in Tainan surrounded by green mountains with calm, blue water reflecting the sky. The site features Japanese-style walking paths with decorative lanterns, a red bridge spanning the water, boat tours in traditional style, insect-themed areas, and various accommodation options including chalets and water villas.
The dam was originally built in 1938 for a sugar factory and served irrigation purposes for agricultural land for many years. Over time, people recognized the natural beauty of the location and transformed it into a recreational destination.
The reservoir is named after its location and is operated by Taiwan Sugar Corporation, which transformed it into a public recreational space. It serves as a gathering place where families and friends come together to escape urban life and enjoy simple outdoor activities by the water.
The site is accessible from Xinying Station by shuttle bus or public transportation, with bike rentals available nearby. Visitors should book boat tours and kayaking activities in advance by phone to ensure a safe and smooth experience.
This is the only place in Taiwan where kayaking on a reservoir is offered regularly. The activity allows paddlers to experience the calm water and surrounding mountains from a unique perspective rarely found elsewhere.
