Guanziling Hot Spring, Natural hot spring in Baihe District, Taiwan
Guanziling is a natural hot spring in Baihe where thermal water emerges from rock fissures with a distinctive gray-black color. The water contains minerals and fine mud particles and reaches temperatures between 75 and 80 degrees Celsius.
The area became important during Japanese colonial rule and developed into a recognized hot spring destination alongside places like Beitou and Yangmingshan. This period shaped the buildings and structures that remain visible today.
The name comes from the natural mud that flows from the springs in its distinctive gray-black color. Walking through the area, you notice traditional Japanese buildings standing alongside colorful murals that show local stories and landmarks.
The site is accessible by car via National Highway 1 or 3, or by high-speed rail to Chiayi Station followed by a local shuttle bus. Give yourself time to explore the pools and facilities at a relaxed pace without rushing.
The natural mud bath here is one of only three places in the world where thermal waters contain selenium and magnesium carbonate. This rare mineral composition makes it particularly interesting for people seeking specific thermal properties.
