Huang Family Qianrang Estate, Manor house in Daan District, Taipei, Taiwan.
Huang Family Qianrang Estate is a manor house in Daan District, Taipei, built in the traditional southern Fujian style with red brick. It follows a three-section plan, with a central building flanked by two side wings and open courtyards between them.
The Huang family's ancestors left Fujian Province in the mid-1700s and settled in what is now the Taipei area, building up their presence over generations. The estate itself was constructed as the family grew in stability and influence in the region.
The layout of the compound, with its open courtyards and symmetrical wings, reflects building traditions brought directly from southern Fujian and adapted to the local setting. The decorative details on the brick facades, including patterned brickwork and carved accents, show how the family expressed their origins through the craft of construction.
The building sits within the grounds of Longmen Junior High School and is not freely open to the general public. A visit requires prior arrangement with the school, so it is worth contacting them in advance before planning your trip.
An old stone well from the original construction period survives in the rear of the compound and can still be seen today. It is one of the few remaining elements that gives a direct sense of how the household functioned in its early years.
