NTHU Night Market, Student retail area near National Tsing Hua University, East District, Taiwan
NTHU Night Market is a retail area in the East District of Hsinchu, Taiwan, spread along several streets close to National Tsing Hua University. It brings together food stalls, clothing shops, and everyday goods vendors all within a short walk of each other.
The area started developing after World War II, when vendors began serving students and workers around the university. Over the following decades it grew from a handful of stalls into a steady commercial district.
The market is closely tied to student life at the nearby university, and many stalls offer dishes popular with young people, such as fried chicken cutlets and bubble tea. You can watch students moving between stalls, meeting friends, or grabbing a quick bite before heading to the library.
Stalls open in the late afternoon and the visit is most rewarding in the evening when everything is running. Several bus lines stop near the university entrance, from where the market is an easy walk.
Although most night markets in Taiwan slow down in rainy weather, many stalls here continue operating thanks to awnings and covered sections that shield vendors and customers alike. This makes it one of the few markets that stays open through most of the year regardless of rain.
