玉門關, Waterfall in Puli Township, Taiwan
Yumen Pass waterfall flows horizontally across large rocks in the valley, creating a distinct pattern of water spray and cascades formed as it moves through numerous boulders. The waterfall sits in a rocky gorge surrounded by lush vegetation and mountain slopes.
The waterfall was historically important as a connection point between the Central Mountain Range and settlements in Nantou County. The area served as part of regional pathways that linked mountain communities with the broader township areas.
The area reflects influences from Hakka and indigenous communities through local food and seasonal celebrations that blend both traditions together.
The route to reach the waterfall follows Provincial Highway 14 to Puli, then turns onto County Road 147 after passing through Beishan Tunnel. The water flow is strongest during and after rainfall, which is the best time to visit.
Unlike conventional vertical waterfalls, this formation flows horizontally across numerous large boulders rather than dropping straight down. This rare arrangement creates a distinctive spreading water pattern that most visitors find quite different from what they usually expect.
