Xiangshan Visitor Center, Tourism office at Sun Moon Lake National Scenic Area, Taiwan
Xiangshan Visitor Center is a modern building with curved architecture situated along Sun Moon Lake in Taiwan, offering wide panoramic views of the water through large openings on multiple sides. The structure spans with two arched sections that distribute the interior into separate exhibition and information areas for visitors.
The building was designed by Japanese architect Norihiko Dan and opened in February 2011 as part of efforts to develop tourism around Sun Moon Lake. Its opening marked a shift in how visitors learn about the region's natural and cultural resources.
The exhibition hall inside displays local ceramics, paper crafts, wines, and teas made by artisans in the region, allowing visitors to see how traditional products are created and sold.
The center is open daily from 9 to 17, with free parking available for cars and buses in the adjacent lot. The open layout and wide entrances make it easy to navigate through the different areas and find information.
The building's roof is covered with grass and slopes upward from ground level, creating a natural continuation of the surrounding landscape that merges the structure into the environment. This design approach allows visitors to experience how the boundary between building and nature becomes blurred as they explore the center.
