Formosan Aboriginal Culture Village, Educational amusement park in Yuchi Township, Taiwan
The Formosan Aboriginal Culture Village is a theme park in Yuchih Township, Taiwan, spanning 62 hectares that combines indigenous culture with entertainment. The aboriginal area sits on a hillside with views of Sun Moon Lake, while the recreation zone includes roller coasters and rides.
Jung-i Chang founded this complex in July 1986 with the goal of preserving and showcasing the cultures of Taiwan's indigenous peoples. The recreation area was added in 1992 to attract a broader audience and increase revenue for the cultural programs.
Traditional dances and ceremonies are performed by members of Taiwan's indigenous groups as visitors walk through reconstructed villages. In workshops, artisans demonstrate their skills in weaving, pottery, and carving while explaining the meaning behind patterns and techniques.
The park sits in the mountains near Sun Moon Lake, so visitors should wear walking shoes and prepare for slopes. Cherry blossom season between January and March is the busiest time, so weekdays offer less crowding.
During cherry blossom season, colorful lights are installed in the trees at night, transforming the entire grounds into a glowing display. The combination of lit cherry blossoms and traditional buildings creates an unusual photographic opportunity that draws many visitors.
