Shangrila Paradise, theme park in Taiwan
Shangrila Paradise is an amusement park in Miaoli, Taiwan, that combines vintage rides with new art installations and learning spaces. The park features working attractions such as bumper boats and a small roller coaster, walking trails, artworks, green areas, and a striking bamboo dome designed by a renowned artist.
The park opened in 1990 and was originally known for its large, carefully trimmed gardens. After years of declining visitor numbers, a major company purchased it in 2012 and began transforming it into a space for art, learning, and entertainment activities.
The park contains a small museum dedicated to Hakka culture, the local population group of this region. Visitors can see traditional tools, clothing, and everyday items displayed in an authentic sanheyuan house, making local heritage tangible and accessible.
The site is most easily reached by car or taxi from Miaoli train station and offers reasonable entry fees with occasional discounts. The surroundings with farmland and mountains create a peaceful setting suitable for all ages.
A striking feature is a large dome made of woven bamboo with holes in the roof that allow views of the sky, creating a quiet place to relax. This art installation is easily spotted from above and stands apart from standard park structures.
