Tendra Spit

Tendra Spit is a long sandy peninsula on Ukraine's northern Black Sea coast. It forms a narrow barrier between the open sea and sheltered lagoon waters, shaped entirely by wind and water movement over time.

The area was known in ancient times as Achilles Racecourse and served as an important route for ships crossing the Black Sea. Greek traders recognized its strategic position along major maritime paths.

The region maintains ecological significance as a protected natural area, providing essential habitats for numerous migratory birds throughout the seasons.

Access to the spit requires permits from local authorities, so visitors should check requirements beforehand. Weather and water conditions shift quickly here, making it important to gather current information before planning any visit.

The Bili Kuchuhury lighthouse stands on this sand formation and has guided seafarers for centuries as a navigation marker. The structure itself tells the story of how important this route was for maritime traffic through the Black Sea.
