Kinburnska Kosa

Kinburnska Kosa is a protected landscape park where the Dnipro and Buh rivers meet the Black Sea, creating a peninsula with shifting dunes, wetlands, and open beaches. The terrain changes constantly due to water movement and wind, shaping how plants and animals live here.

The peninsula held strategic importance during the Cossack period, when the Kinburn fortress was built to control access to the Black Sea. This fortification marked the presence of Cossack communities in the region.

The region maintains strong environmental conservation practices through local initiatives, festivals, and educational programs focusing on the protection of endemic species.

The area is accessible from Mykolaiv city but requires advance planning and checking current conditions before visiting. Seasonal changes and weather significantly affect how easily you can explore it.

The protected area contains one of Europe's largest wild orchid fields, where hundreds of delicate flowers bloom across the dunes and wetlands. This concentration of orchids in a single location is remarkable and draws nature enthusiasts.
