Berezanka, Urban settlement in southern Mykolaiv Oblast, Ukraine.
Berezanka is an urban-type settlement in the south of Mykolaiv Oblast, Ukraine, positioned near the Berezan estuary along the Black Sea coast. It serves as the administrative center of the Berezanka settlement community and sits in a flat steppe landscape.
German colonists founded the settlement in 1866 and named it Alexanderfeld. It was later renamed Suvorovo in 1914, then received its current name in 1926.
The name Berezanka comes from the Ukrainian word for birch tree, reflecting the local natural setting. Today the settlement acts as a small service hub for the surrounding villages, with a market and basic shops gathered near the center.
Berezanka sits along the M14 highway connecting Odesa and Mykolaiv, making it easy to reach by road. Once there, expect basic services suited to everyday needs rather than tourism.
In January 2024, Berezanka officially lost its urban-type settlement status and was reclassified as a rural settlement. This kind of administrative shift is part of a broader reform affecting many similar communities across Ukraine.
