National Nature Park Ivory Coast of Sviatoslav, National nature park near Ochakiv, Ukraine
The National Nature Park Ivory Coast of Sviatoslav is a protected area along the northern Black Sea coast, encompassing parts of the Dnieper-Bug estuary and Kinburn Peninsula. The landscape includes varied habitats with lakes, wetlands, and coastal zones spanning a large territory.
The area was established as a protected zone in December 2009 by the Ukrainian Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources to preserve the natural ecosystems of the Black Sea region. This decision came from the need to safeguard these biologically rich coastal landscapes from further change.
The name honors Prince Sviatoslav, whose medieval military expeditions through these coastal lands left their mark on regional memory. This connection links the natural space to local history and identity.
The park offers seven walking routes and three educational trails, so visitors should check access conditions before going. Some areas require a guide, making advance planning advisable.
Over 700 lakes of both fresh and salt water fill the area and create vital habitats for diverse bird life. This water-filled landscape is why pelicans and common eiders thrive in such numbers here.
