Clarke County is a county in southern Iowa, with Osceola as its county seat. The land is mostly rural, bordered by five neighboring counties, and crossed by major highways that pass through Osceola.
The county was named in 1846 after James Clarke, who served as Governor of the Iowa Territory. The current courthouse in Osceola was completed in 1956, replacing an earlier structure on the same site.
