Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport is a major international facility serving both Baltimore and Washington DC metropolitan areas in Maryland. The terminal divides into five concourses with 78 gates serving domestic and overseas destinations.
The facility opened for operations in 1947 and was officially dedicated by President Truman three years later. In 2005, it adopted its current name honoring the first African American Supreme Court Justice from Baltimore.

International arrivals use Concourse E at the southern end of the terminal, requiring extra walking time. Direct rail connections to downtown and regional destinations run from the lower level without requiring a transfer.
Southwest Airlines runs one of its largest operations here and moves more than half of all annual travelers through the terminal. The carrier uses mostly the middle concourses for its numerous domestic routes.
