Lucas Oil Stadium, NFL stadium in downtown Indianapolis, United States
Lucas Oil Stadium is a multipurpose arena in downtown Indianapolis that serves chiefly as home to the Indianapolis Colts. The structure includes a large playing field with a retractable roof, tall seating sections on all sides, and a wide window wall that brings daylight into the interior.
The building opened in August 2008 to replace the older RCA Dome, giving the city its first modern arena with a movable roof. The project shaped the development of the surrounding neighborhood and attracted further investment in the downtown area.
Beyond hosting games for the Indianapolis Colts, the building regularly draws residents and visitors for college basketball tournaments, large trade shows, and live concerts. The variety of events brings different crowds, so you might see football fans one day and conference attendees or concertgoers the next.
The arena sits directly next to the Indiana Convention Center, so visitors can explore the whole area on foot. Inside, you will find plenty of stairways, restrooms, and food stands that open on event days.
The outer shell combines reddish-brown brick with Indiana limestone, so the building echoes older sports venues in the city like Hinkle Fieldhouse. That choice of materials links modern function with traditional local architecture.
