RCA Dome, Stadium in Indianapolis, United States
The RCA Dome was a covered sports stadium in Indianapolis marked by an air-supported structure with a specially coated ceiling. The facility connected directly to an adjacent convention center and held tens of thousands of spectators during events.
The venue opened in 1984 and served for more than two decades as home to a National Football League team. After a new downtown stadium was completed, the building closed permanently in 2008 and was later torn down.
The venue became a gathering point for local sports fans who followed college basketball games and professional football matches throughout the season. It also served as a performance space for musicians and major public events that drew visitors from across the Midwest.
The site no longer exists as the structure was fully removed and the land repurposed for other uses. Visitors interested in Indianapolis sports venue history can explore the currently used stadium nearby or consult local archive materials.
After the demolition, sections of the special roof material were collected and reused to build smaller community structures and temporary constructions. These fragments found a second life in regional projects, allowing the material to remain in use.
