Gainbridge Fieldhouse, Indoor sports arena in downtown Indianapolis, United States
Gainbridge Fieldhouse is an indoor sports facility in downtown Indianapolis with a total of 18,165 seats arranged across multiple levels. Wide corridors run through the interior, where seating areas surround the central playing floor and private boxes occupy the upper stories.
The arena opened in November 1999 as a replacement for the former Market Square Arena, which was demolished at that time. Ellerbe Becket Architects designed the building, which has undergone several name changes since its opening.
The building serves as home to two professional basketball teams and regularly draws crowds for games and concerts. The arena bears the name of a local insurance company, reflecting the close ties between sports and business in the city.
Several entrances lead inside, where elevators and escalators connect the different levels. Food stands and restrooms are distributed throughout the building, and parking facilities are located within walking distance.
Visible steel beams in the ceiling and tall arched windows on the exterior recall the construction style of traditional gymnasiums in the state. The brick facade blends with the architecture of surrounding buildings downtown.
