Delaware Flats

Delaware Flats is a historic apartment building in Indianapolis featuring ten bays across its facade of painted brick and limestone. The structure displays Corinthian pilasters and two-story blank arches in Neoclassical style.

The building was constructed in 1887 as part of Indianapolis's late 19th-century development. It earned listing on the National Register of Historic Places in 1983 as a component of the Washington Street-Monument Circle Historic District.

The ground floor storefronts with cast iron framing show how residential and commercial spaces were tightly woven together during the late industrial era. This mixed-use arrangement still shapes the character of the street today.

The building sits in downtown Indianapolis on North Delaware Street and is easily accessible on foot. The historic facade is visible from the street and can be viewed by passersby without paying admission.

The roof and interior structures were modernized over the decades while the exterior facade remained faithful to its original classical form. This adaptation allowed the building to continue functioning as residential space while preserving its historic appearance.
