Rhodes College, Private liberal arts college in Memphis, United States.
Rhodes College is a private liberal arts institution in Memphis, Tennessee, offering more than 70 academic programs. The site covers about 123 acres with buildings in collegiate Gothic style and pathways running through open lawns.
The institution was founded in 1848 as Masonic University of Tennessee and moved to Memphis in 1925. It received its current name in 1984, honoring president Peyton Rhodes.
The campus uses uniform gray limestone for all buildings, giving the whole site a coherent look. Students often sit on the lawns between the buildings, using outdoor spaces for studying or gathering.
The campus is open to visitors who can walk through the outdoor grounds. During the academic year, pathways are busy, while summer months are quieter.
The college runs one of the oldest student Habitat for Humanity chapters in the country. It also operates a soup kitchen that has been managed by students for decades.
