Villanova University is a private Catholic institution in Radnor Township, Pennsylvania, set across a campus of roughly 103 hectares (254 acres) with numerous academic buildings and student housing. The grounds include research facilities, open green spaces, and the Gothic-style St. Thomas of Villanova Church, completed in the late nineteenth century.
The institution was founded in 1842 by the Order of Saint Augustine on a property in Radnor Township and gradually developed into a modern university. In 1968 the school opened fully to women and became coeducational.
Students organize the largest student-run Special Olympics event in the country, bringing together hundreds of athletes and volunteers each year. The six colleges offer more than sixty academic programs and maintain an atmosphere where learning connects with Augustinian tradition and community service.
