1211 Avenue of the Americas, International Style skyscraper in Midtown Manhattan, United States
This office tower rises 45 floors along Sixth Avenue between 47th and 48th Streets, combining limestone piers with continuous glass bands. The facade follows International Style principles and reaches 180 meters (591 feet), with vertical elements drawing the eye upward.
The tower was completed in 1973 as part of the Rockefeller Center expansion, belonging to a group of buildings developed during the 1960s and 1970s. This development phase transformed the neighborhood character and added modern office space to the already established commercial district.
The structure houses the Fox News studios, where numerous television programs are produced and broadcast to millions of viewers across the United States.
The tower contains office space and connects directly to the city subway system through underground passages. The building received LEED certification for its environmental features and remains a working office building with no publicly accessible areas.
The stone piers on the outer facade serve no structural purpose and exist purely for visual design. The continuous glass surfaces hide individual floor levels and make the building appear shorter than it actually stands.
