1552 Broadway, Commercial building in Times Square, US
1552 Broadway is a commercial building at the corner of Broadway and 46th Street in Times Square, Manhattan, clad in limestone and marble with polished details. It brings together three originally separate buildings into a single multi-story retail complex.
The building dates from 1926 and originally housed the I. Miller shoe store, which supplied footwear to performers across New York's theater world. Over the decades it was renovated and converted into a broader retail complex.
Four white statues set in gold niches on the 46th Street side depict actresses Ethel Barrymore, Marilyn Miller, Mary Pickford, and Rosa Ponselle, each shown in one of their celebrated stage roles. These figures are still visible to anyone walking past and connect the building directly to the theater world that once defined this neighborhood.
The building sits at a busy intersection and is within walking distance of several subway stations, making it easy to reach on foot from most parts of Midtown. The interior spans multiple floors and is fitted with modern elevators, so moving between levels is straightforward.
The Broadway facade has carried advertising since 1910, starting with Domino Sugar signs, making it one of the earliest spots in New York to use large-scale outdoor promotion. The digital billboards seen there today are a direct continuation of that original use.
