Millennium Times Square New York is a hotel of two glass-clad towers flanking the Hudson Theatre at 133–145 West 44th Street. The 48-story west tower, 481 feet tall, was designed by William Derman with Perkins & Will; its dark blue-grey glass grid is split by a deep central recess. The 22-story east annex, by Stonehill & Taylor, is branded Millennium Premier New York Times Square.
Harry Macklowe acquired the site in the early 1980s but was penalized in 1985 for illegally demolishing four structures there, delaying construction until 1987. The original 48-story tower opened in early 1990 as the Hotel Macklowe, with the Hudson Theatre folded into its conference center. Chemical Bank took the hotel through foreclosure in 1994 and resold it to CDL Hotels, which renamed it the Millennium Broadway. A 22-story annex followed in 1999.
The hotel incorporates the Hudson Theatre, a 1903 Broadway house, into its base; the theater was restored and reopened in 2017 after being used as a conference room. The hotel's 44th Street entrance is flanked by silver sconces beneath a canopy, and a passageway links the 44th and 45th Street entrances.
The hotel is within walking distance of multiple subway lines and offers access to conference rooms, business facilities, and a fitness center. The central location makes it easy to explore the neighborhood on foot or use public transportation.
The hotel's 48-story tower rises 481 feet (147 m) because developer Harry Macklowe bought the unused air rights of the Hudson Theatre, letting it exceed normal zoning limits. The first seven stories are stone in a classical style matching the theater; the upper facade is dark glass.
