Air Power Park, Aviation museum in Hampton, United States
Air Power Park is an aviation museum in Hampton with aircraft, rockets, and spacecraft from the 1950s and 1960s connected to the nearby Langley Air Force Base. The facility spreads across about 15 acres, with an outdoor section displaying large aircraft and an indoor museum containing eight themed rooms that show over 325 models of planes, spacecraft, and vessels from all branches of the United States military.
The museum was established to document aviation and space history, particularly developments connected to military air research. The collection focuses on the post-World War 2 period when the United States made rapid progress in jet and rocket technology.
The park sits along a waterway where visitors watch herons, egrets, and other water birds in their natural surroundings near the shore. This blend of nature and aviation history creates a place where two worlds coexist in the same space.
The outdoor area is free to visit daily from sunrise to sunset, while the indoor museum opens from 9 AM to 5 PM. Wear comfortable shoes and bring sun protection for outdoor viewing, as the grounds offer limited shade.
A time capsule placed in 1965 next to the Jupiter C rocket and F-89J remains sealed until 2065, preserving items that reflect the technology and ambitions of that era. This connects the past and future through a single sealed object at the site.
