Buckroe Beach Carousel, Historical carousel in Hampton, United States.
The Buckroe Beach Carousel is a wooden carousel featuring 48 hand-carved horses arranged in three rows plus two wooden chariots on a circular platform. A 1914 band organ inside provides traditional music as the ride operates.
The carousel was built in 1920 by the Philadelphia Toboggan Company and originally stood at Buckroe Beach Amusement Park, where it served visitors for decades. The park closed in 1985, but the carousel was preserved and relocated to its current location.
The carousel displays crafted details including oil paintings and mirrors that ornament its structure. These artistic elements reflect the skilled workmanship that went into early amusement park attractions.
The carousel is located near downtown Hampton close to museums and other attractions. The site is easy to access on foot and offers a relaxed visit for families and friends.
Each of the 48 horses was individually restored between 1988 and 1991, with every animal keeping its own artistic personality. This detailed restoration work brought back the original craftsmanship from 1920.
