The mountain received its name from the waterfalls flowing between two Cascade Lakes, replacing its original designation as Long Pond Mountain.
The summit marks the 36th highest point among the Adirondack High Peaks, drawing numerous hikers who follow trails marked with red discs.
Parking spaces near the trailhead on Route 73 fill up early, requiring visitors to arrive before peak hours or use designated overflow areas.
The summit features exposed bedrock resulting from a 1903 fire, providing clear views of surrounding peaks and the Van Hoevenberg ski center.
