The district entrance is at the intersection of Morgan Avenue and Roane Street, extending toward Morgan and Georgia Street as you move through the area. Walking through this neighborhood allows you to see the homes at a comfortable pace and enjoy the hilltop setting.
The neighborhood took its name from Frederick Gates's residence located at the eastern end, which stood until the early 20th century. Though the house disappeared long ago, the name preserves the memory of that founding presence in the area.
