Dodge Park Playland, Former amusement park in Council Bluffs, Iowa.
Dodge Park Playland was an amusement park on the north side of Council Bluffs near the Ak-Sar-Ben Bridge, featuring rides and carnival attractions. The venue included roller coasters, food concessions, and games spread across the grounds for family entertainment.
The park was established in 1948 by brothers Abe and Louis Slusky on the site of a former dog racing track that closed in 1943. Construction of Interstate 480 in 1964 significantly reduced the park's size and required operational adjustments.
The park represented mid-20th century American entertainment preferences, providing families with roller coasters, food stands, and carnival games until 1970.
The site today operates as public parkland where visitors can walk and explore the historic location. The area is easily accessible and offers a casual way to experience the grounds where the park once stood.
After closing in 1970, the rides from this park were relocated to Frontier City in Oklahoma City, giving them a second life. This transfer preserved several classic attractions that might otherwise have been dismantled.
