Rockerill is a multi-purpose hall in Charleroi housed inside a former steel factory and seats around 250 people. The site includes several spaces such as exhibition areas, a recording studio, and artist workshops that support its music and art programming throughout the year.
The building was converted into a culture and music venue in 2005 by a group of artists who preserved its original industrial appearance. This transformation of a 19th-century steel factory into an active cultural space represents the repurposing of a historic industrial site.
The name comes from John Cockerill, an important steelmaker from the early 1800s whose factory once operated at this location. The venue keeps this industrial past alive through its architecture and the way people gather here, making it a place where history and contemporary culture naturally blend together.
The venue hosts a diverse program throughout the year with around 80 events annually, ranging from rock concerts to electronic music. Visitors should arrive early to secure a good spot and can take advantage of free Thursday concerts running from May through October.
The site was once involved in manufacturing parts for the Eiffel Tower, a lesser-known connection to European industrial history. The transformation of this place into a venue for experimental and psychedelic music shows how such historical sites become centers for new forms of artistic expression.
