Sinanitsa hut, Mountain refuge in Kresna Municipality, Bulgaria.
Sinanitsa hut is a mountain hut in the Pirin Mountains of Bulgaria, sitting on the northwestern shore of Sinanitsa Lake at high altitude. It offers beds, a dining room, and kitchen facilities for hikers passing through the area.
The Pirin Mountains were a refuge for Bulgarian fighters resisting Ottoman rule in the 19th century, and the high terrain played a role in shaping local resistance. Mountain huts in the area appeared later, as organized hiking developed in Bulgaria in the early 20th century.
The hut sits right on the shore of Sinanitsa Lake and serves as a natural stopping point for walkers heading deeper into the Pirin range. It is a familiar landmark for Bulgarian mountain clubs who organize group hikes through this area each summer.
The hut is most easily reached in summer when the trails are free of snow and the weather is more predictable. Mountain gear is recommended regardless of the season, as conditions can change quickly at this elevation.
The lake next to the hut is one of the deepest glacial lakes in the Pirin range, fed mainly by snowmelt and staying very cold even in midsummer. This means the water remains unusually clear throughout the warm season, making it easy to see the rocky bottom from the shore.
