Estadio Benito Villamarín, Football stadium in Seville, Spain
Estadio Benito Villamarín is a football stadium in Seville, Spain, with four symmetrical stands that together hold 60,720 spectators. The ground has continuous seating rows, modern roofing over all sections, and a well-maintained grass pitch in the center.
The stadium opened in 1929 with an international match in which Spain defeated Portugal. During the Civil War the venue was requisitioned and damaged, which later required major rebuilding work.
The stadium is home to Real Betis, and on match days supporters fill the stands with green-and-white flags and scarves. Fans often sing local songs that reflect their Andalusian identity and rivalry with their city opponents.
Tours run from Monday to Saturday mornings and allow visits to the boxes, press rooms, changing areas, and the pitch itself. Before visiting it is worth checking whether events are scheduled that day, as access may then be restricted.
The architect Antonio Illanes del Río designed the stadium following classical principles with an open stand structure. The first renovations after the war altered the original layout considerably and introduced new materials.
