Puente de las Delicias, Railway bridge in Seville, Spain.
Puente de las Delicias is a railway bridge spanning about 108 meters across the Guadalquivir River in Seville, connecting Cardenal Bueno Monreal avenue to Juan Pablo II avenue. The structure carries rail traffic while also featuring a lifting mechanism that enables larger vessels to navigate through the waterway.
Engineers Leonardo Fernández Troyano and Javier Manterola Armisen designed and built the bridge between 1988 and 1990. The project was created specifically to serve the 1992 Universal Exhibition held in the city.
The bridge takes its name from the nearby Paseo de las Delicias and Jardines de las Delicias located on the eastern riverbank. Visitors passing over can spot these green spaces and feel the connection between the structure and the surrounding public areas.
The best way to explore the bridge is on foot or by bicycle from the neighboring riverside promenades. The area is easily accessible and offers good vantage points from ground level, especially during morning and evening hours.
Two low-height white pillars support the structure with a boat-inspired design that echoes the historical Triana boat bridge. This design choice connects the modern construction to Seville's maritime heritage.
