Fountain of the Frogs, Ceramic fountain in Parque de María Luisa, Spain
The Fountain of the Frogs is a ceramic fountain in Parque de Maria Luisa with eight large frogs arranged around the perimeter and a duck standing on a turtle at the center. Water flows from the mouths of the frogs and from the duck's beak.
This fountain was built in 1914 when the old San Telmo gardens were being turned into a public park. It was damaged during the Spanish Civil War but later restored.
The name simply describes what you see: frogs and a duck on a turtle. This fountain shows the ceramic style that people in Seville loved in the early 1900s.
The fountain sits between two long ponds near the Garden of Lions and in a peaceful area of the park. You can approach it easily on foot and get a good view from all sides.
Of the eight frogs, only one is an original from 1914 and the others were recreated from ceramic in later decades. This shows how monuments are gradually repaired and replaced to keep them alive for future generations.
