Los Realejos

Los Realejos is a municipality in northern Tenerife situated at about 420 meters in elevation across mountainous terrain with views toward the northern coast. The area spans diverse landscapes and borders Corona Forestal Natural Park.

The municipality emerged in the 16th century after Spanish settlers established permanent settlements following the conquest of Guanche territories. This early colonization phase shaped the region's basic structure and settlement patterns.

The name Realejos comes from the royal holdings that were established during the early Spanish colonial period. Visitors can observe in the old town the spatial arrangement and details of traditional architecture that reflect this historical significance.

Trails connect various natural areas throughout the municipality, enabling exploration of both coastal and mountain landscapes. The best season for outdoor activities is during the cooler months when weather conditions are more stable.

The Church of Nuestra Señora de la Concepción displays Spanish colonial architecture with Renaissance elements that have remained in their original form. This structure is a rare example of how early European building traditions were preserved in this region.
