Iglesia de Nuestra Señora de la Concepción, Los Realejos

The Iglesia de Nuestra Señora de la Concepción is a parish church in Los Realejos with three naves, several side chapels, and four stone facades showing the evolution of Canarian architecture. The layout creates distinct devotional spaces while the exterior walls tell a story of different construction periods.

This church was built between 1697 and 1701 on the site of an earlier chapel dating from 1516, with the parish established in 1533. The structure represents centuries of continuous spiritual significance for the community.

The interior displays modern altarpieces created using time-honored artistic methods, with notable sculptures by Ezequiel de León y Domínguez enhancing the sacred space. These works reflect how traditional craftsmanship continues to define the character of worship in this place.

The church provides multiple entrances and chapels to explore, with the tower prominently located on the southern side of the building. Allow adequate time to walk through the different spaces and observe the architectural details at your own pace.

The church preserves a silver processional cross made by Francisco de Soto in 1560, making it the oldest of its kind in the Canary Islands. This artifact demonstrates exceptional metalwork from that era and survives as a rare witness to historic religious practices.
