Arbón dam, zbiornik retencyjny (Asturia, Hiszpania)
Arbón dam is a water barrier on the Navia River in Asturias that creates a large reservoir about 180 meters across. The structure sits within a landscape of oak and willow trees, with native vegetation lining the waterfront and surrounding hills.
The dam was completed in 1962 as the first hydroelectric project on the Navia River. This marked the beginning of renewable energy development in the region through water power generation.
The dam represents how the local community lives with water resources and values outdoor activities on and around it. Fishing and rowing are regular practices here, reflecting how residents and visitors share this space for leisure and sustenance.
Access is easiest via the AS-25 or AS-12 road from the town of Boal, with parking near the dam structure. Motorboats are not permitted, but rowing, sailing, and fishing are available in designated areas like El Pantalan.
A specially equipped area called El Pantalan offers dedicated facilities for water sports enthusiasts. This designated zone along the reservoir provides infrastructure for rowing and sailing activities without motorized boats.
