Playa de Fabal

Playa de Fabal is a 140 meter sandy beach nestled between steep cliffs along the northern Asturian coast, shaped by strong waves and powerful currents. The sand narrows in places and drops quickly into deeper water, creating a dynamic shoreline against the rocky landscape.

This beach maintained its natural state over many decades before being protected as a Special Protection Area to preserve its ecological value. The designation came as recognition of its importance for wildlife and unspoiled coastal habitats.

This place embodies the connection between Asturian coastal communities and the Atlantic Ocean, with fishing traditions still visible in daily life. You notice this through the boats and nets along the shore and how locals move through the space.

You will need to descend steep stairs to reach the beach, so wear appropriate footwear and allow time for the climb down. Due to strong currents, swimming is only safe for experienced swimmers, and you should always check conditions before entering the water.

A natural rock formation splits the beach into two parts: the main stretch and a smaller hidden cove that many visitors overlook. This secluded side offers a quieter experience and a different view of the coastal line.
