Bradford Robotic Telescope, Schmidt-Cassegrain telescope at Teide Observatory, Tenerife, Spain.
The Bradford Robotic Telescope is a remote-controlled instrument with a 35.5-centimeter diameter lens located at 2400 meters elevation within the Teide Observatory. The system has multiple cameras with different focal lengths to observe both wide star fields and individual galaxies.
The telescope began operations between 2002 and 2004 under University of Bradford management and was transferred to the Open University in 2016. This transition expanded research capabilities and remote access to the observation system.
The telescope serves educational institutions worldwide by providing remote access capabilities for astronomical research and data collection purposes.
The facility operates fully automatically and is designed for remote observations, so visitors can explore the observatory grounds and view the equipment during guided tours. An automated weather monitoring system ensures the instrument runs under optimal conditions.
The automated weather monitoring system at the telescope site connects to local meteorological stations to ensure optimal observation conditions and equipment safety.
