Sierras de Tejeda, Almijara y Alhama Natural Park

The protected area extends over 40,663 hectares of mountainous terrain, featuring limestone cliffs, marble formations, and peaks reaching 2,080 meters at La Maroma summit.

The region provided shelter to resistance fighters during the Spanish Civil War and contains remains of settlements dating back to the Moorish period.

Local communities in villages such as Alcaucín, Canillas de Aceituno, and Frigiliana maintain traditional Andalusian agriculture practices, including olive and almond cultivation.

Visitors can access multiple marked trails from surrounding villages, with five designated driving routes connecting major points of interest throughout the park.

The dolomitic marble formations in Sierra Almijara create distinct grey and white patterns across the landscape, while numerous caves near Nerja offer opportunities for speleology.
