Sierras de Tejeda, Almijara y Alhama Natural Park

Sierras de Tejeda, Almijara y Alhama Natural Park spreads across mountainous terrain with limestone cliffs, marble formations, and peaks reaching 2,080 meters at La Maroma. The landscape consists of rocky ridges extending across dozens of kilometers and surrounding several villages.

The area served as shelter for resistance fighters during the Spanish Civil War and contains remains of settlements from the Moorish period. These historical traces remain visible in the mountains and abandoned structures today.

Villages like Alcaucín and Frigiliana shape the landscape through olive and almond farming that has been passed down through generations. This traditional agriculture remains visible today and defines how locals interact with the land.

The area is accessible from several villages via marked hiking trails with varying difficulty levels. Five signposted driving routes connect major points of interest throughout the park and allow travel through different sections.

The marble formations in Sierra Almijara feature distinctive grey and white patterns that mark the rock faces. Numerous caves near Nerja offer opportunities for cave exploration and study.
