Castillo de Frigiliana, Medieval fortress ruins in Frigiliana, Spain

The foundations and remaining walls of the castle stand on Cerro de la Sabina hill, covering an area of 4000 square meters at 36.79 latitude.

The castle, constructed between the 9th and 11th centuries, was destroyed in 1569 following orders from Luis de Requesens, Commander-in-Chief of Castilla.

The castle materials were later integrated into the Manrique de Lara Palace, connecting two significant architectural elements of Frigiliana's heritage.

Visitors can access the site through marked paths, which lead to viewpoints offering views of the Mediterranean Sea and the Axarquía region.

An ancient irrigation system, including an aqueduct, supplied water to the fortress through channels carved into the mountainside.
