Puente de Andalucía, Cable-stayed bridge in Córdoba, Spain
The Puente de Andalucía is a cable-stayed bridge crossing the Guadalquivir River in Córdoba, recognizable by its distinctive towers and radiating steel cables. Its reinforced concrete deck spans across the water supported by cables attached to tall pylons, linking the northern and southern parts of the city.
The bridge opened in 2004 as a major infrastructure project to ease traffic flow in Córdoba. Its design reflected contemporary European bridge-building standards and addressed the city's growing transportation needs.
Engineer Javier Manterola designed this contemporary bridge to complement the existing architectural landscape of Córdoba while adding modern structural elements.
The bridge is open daily for vehicles and pedestrians and provides a direct crossing over the river. The best views of the structure are from either riverbank, where you can see the cable and tower details clearly.
The structure combines reinforced concrete and steel materials in its construction, demonstrating modern engineering techniques through its cable-stayed design.
