Teatro de la Axerquía, Open-air theater in Córdoba, Spain.

The Teatro de la Axerquía is an open-air theater on Avenida Menéndez Pidal, beside Parque Cruz Conde and the Colina de los Quemados in Córdoba. Designed by architect José Rebollo Dicenta, it covers 20,000 square meters and was built for both standing and seated audiences.

The open-air theatre was the idea of mayor Antonio Guzmán Reina; work began in 1970 to plans by architect José Rebollo Dicenta under the name Teatro al Aire Libre. It opened on 15 September 1976 with Shakespeare's Julius Caesar performed by the Compañía Nacional de Teatro. Closed in 1993 for remodelling, it reopened on 2 July 2007 as Teatro de la Axerquía with a Paco de Lucía concert.

The venue hosts different kinds of shows throughout the year, ranging from concerts to dance performances and theater productions. Its hillside location creates a special connection between the audience and the performers on stage.

The theater stands on the Colina de los Quemados, next to Cruz Conde Park on Avenida Menéndez Pidal. The third phase of the renovation begun in 2004 is still pending, so parts of the complex may be unfinished. Check the programme before travelling, since it only fills with spectators during concerts and festivals.

The theater's original name was Teatro al Aire Libre, and its construction was promoted by mayor Antonio Guzmán Reina with a budget of 9,234,567 pesetas. In December 2015 a plaque was unveiled at the venue honoring architect José Rebollo Dicenta, three years after his death.
