Castillo de Argüeso

Castillo de Argüeso is a stone fortress perched on a hilltop that watches over the Valle de Saja and guards the passage between the coast and Castilla. The structure features multiple levels, defensive towers, and Gothic details built during different construction phases.

The fortress was built between the 13th and 15th centuries and controlled by the Vega-Mendoza family for generations. The castle passed through various hands over time before gaining official heritage protection.

Craftsmen from the Sobaler family restored the castle using chestnut and oak wood from the region while keeping traditional building methods. This restoration work shows how local knowledge has protected the place across generations.
