Viaducto de Montabliz

Viaducto de Montabliz, Reinforced concrete bridge in Cantabria, Spain

The Viaducto de Montabliz is an elevated concrete bridge spanning 721 meters (2,365 feet) across the Cantabrian landscape at a height of 198 meters (650 feet). The structure rests on five main supports and carries traffic along the A-67 highway through a mountainous region.

The viaduct opened to traffic in January 2008, improving transportation in this mountainous region. Its completion resolved long-standing connectivity issues between communities separated by difficult terrain.

The bridge shapes the landscape through its modern design, standing out clearly against the surrounding terrain. It connects communities that were previously separated by the valley, changing how people in the region move around daily.

The best views of the bridge are from vantage points in the valley below or from nearby roads that circle the structure. Daytime visits work well because you can see the full scale and how it spans across the landscape.

The bridge ranks among Spain's highest structures, crossing the Bisueña river valley far above the water. Its design demonstrates advanced engineering that made it possible to build a stable crossing over particularly difficult terrain.
